Coyote’s Howl Sept 28 – Oct 2

Dear Parents and Families,

I hope that you are having a great weekend with your loved ones. Thank you for all your help during pick-up and drop off during the first few weeks. We appreciate your efforts to “pick-up and drop-off” as close to the bell as possible. This will help us avoid crowds gathering at school.

As many of you already know we are trying to also limit traffic and parking on Braid. We acknowledge that parents can often feel rushed and stressed during drop-off and pick-up times, but your efforts will help keep everyone safe.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

If possible please leave your dogs at home during drop-off and pick-up times. Please note that there are children at our school (and even adults) who have a phobia towards dogs. Unfortunately, such phobias are present despite the size or breed of the dog. In past years we’ve even had incidences where dogs have been aggressive towards students. If you feel that you must bring your dog to school during drop-off and pick-up times, please tie/leash your dog along the front fence. Please do not tie them up at the bike racks since many students travel through that area during activity breaks.

Dogs should never be past the fenced area near at any time. We are finding that despite good intentions by dog owners, we are still finding dog-poo on our grounds. This, of course, is of great concern as kids often step in it during recess and lunch. Please help us by spreading the word to your neighbours as well. We also encourage the use of the dog park as opposed to our school field/school grounds.

As mentioned last week, our Terry Fox Run will look a bit different this year. Unfortunately, we are not able to do our school-wide run down to the dyke, like in past years. In place of that, there will be small mini Terry Fox runs during PE classes from Sept 29 to Oct 1.

Students are encouraged to bring a “Twoonie for Terry”. All donations will go to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Orange shirt day is Sept 30th. Please encourage your child to wear orange that day. If you need more information about Orange Shirt Day or would like to read Phyllis’s Story please visit

Our first PAC Meeting will be outdoors in our amphitheatre on Wed, Sept 30 at 6:30. We encourage you to attend. Please bring your own chair and we encourage you to wear a mask as well.

We have our water refill station in the gym up and running again. Kids will still need to remember to bring their own water bottle to fill (as the “water-fountain” part is turned off since we are avoiding “lips-to-spout”). We do also have a limited supply of individual bottles of water in the office for emergencies.

GOING HOME FOR LUNCH

Going home for lunch is also highly discouraged as we want to limit traffic in and out of the building as much as possible. If at all possible, please have your child eat lunch at school. Of course, we recognize that there will be occasions/circumstances when this is unavoidable and the school will work with families when such situations come up. In such scenarios please plan around their assigned lunchtimes.
