Coyote’s Howl Feb 1 – 5

Dear Parents and Families,

With Valentine’s Day approaching in a couple of weeks, we are sure families are wondering what Valentine’s Day will look like for schools this year. Please see the guidelines below (in line with the District’s COVID-19 Safety Plan) for celebrating the occasion:

  • Students can distribute paper Valentine’s cards.
  • Students can bring in a treat for themselves from home.
  • Teachers may choose to give treats to their students as long as they are manufacturer-individually wrapped and purchased by the teacher.
  • No homemade food items should be made available to students.
  • Students must not share their food with other students.
  • Students must not bring food to distribute to other students.
  • Teachers will ask students to wash/sanitize hands prior to distributing their Valentine’s cards and/or eating, and again afterwards.

Fraser Health Winter Update and Resources for Families

Recently, Fraser Health shared a brief update on how we can all help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools. We encourage you to take a read: click here to view it.  Also, a reminder that the Fraser Health website offers a wealth of valuable resources for families. Click here to access them.

Family Day is on Monday, February 15. We encourage all families to continue to follow the public health orders. Currently, this means you should limit your Family Day activities to the members of your immediate household. Please do not:

  • Invite friends or family to your home
  • Host gatherings outdoors
  • Gather in your backyard
  • Arrange playdates for children

Many thanks for continuing to help keep our community safe.

As we mentioned last week, Kindergarten registration takes place mid-February each year. A child may be registered to attend Kindergarten in September if his or her fifth birthday occurs on or before December 31st of the current year.

Kindergarten registration for the 2021/2022 school year will be held from February 16-23, 2021. Please register ONLINE for your catchment area school. For verification of your catchment area school, please check the School Locator. Instructions on how to register will be posted on the District website in early February.

Please have the following documents ready to upload with your child’s registration (all documents must be received for registration to be accepted):

  1. Proof of birth date for the student (birth certificate or passport) (registration will not be accepted until proof of birth date is received)
  2. Proof of citizenship for both the parent and the student (Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, landed immigrant document, permanent resident card)
  3. BC Services Card
  4. Proof of Residency (Property Taxes – current receipt, purchase/rental agreement or rental receipt)

If a parent wishes for a child to attend a school other than their catchment area school, an online non-catchment application form must be completed. Non-catchment applications will be accepted online only commencing February 1, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. Applications received prior to March 5, 2021 will receive priority in their respective category. Approvals will be processed as soon as possible, but may be held until the second week of September, therefore, parents should register their child at their catchment area school the week of February 16-23, 2021 to ensure a placement. Schools will hold non-catchment forms until approved by the Assistant Superintendents’ Office.

  • Monday, February 1 – Non-Catchment School Registrations Open
  • Wednesday, February 10 – PAC meeting at 6:30 via Zoom
