Dear Parents and Families,
Tsawwassen First Nation Treaty Day – April 3
On Sunday, April 3, Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) will be celebrating Treaty Day. This is the 13th anniversary of the TFN Treaty, the first urban treaty in British Columbia. This treaty restored land ownership and self-government jurisdiction to the Tsawwassen people after many years of negotiation. You can read about the treaty process on the TFN website under the Timeline of History both Pre & Post-Treaty.
We also encourage you to read the newly released Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan 2022-2027. Within the 89 actions listed in this plan, there are a number specific to the district’s continued work.
Please join us online on Monday, April 4 for the weekly Monday Morning Land Acknowledgment. There are three available times:
- 8:40 am Secondary
- 9:15 am Elementary
- 9:50 am Secondary
We’d love to have this as the biggest turn out yet in recognition of the TFN Treaty Day.
